Solar energy receives feed-in subsidy

June 18, 2018 - Niels van der Boom - 21 comments

From 2020 there will be a new subsidy scheme for solar panels. The current netting scheme will be replaced by a feed-in subsidy. Eric Wiebes, Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate, announced this. So far, only the broad outlines are known. Wiebes hopes to fill in the details this summer.

The current netting arrangement will be, according to Wiebes, too generous. The payback period of solar panels decreases in the long term: from 7 to 4 years. That is why there will be a feed-in subsidy after 2020, which will again bring the payback time to 7 years.

The amount of the feed-in subsidy is determined annually. Your energy supplier pays you the basic energy price. A varying subsidy gives the government flexibility to moderate the amount when the price of solar panels decreases. The indirect link with energy tax and VAT is being abandoned. The subsidy amount that you will receive from 2020 will therefore decrease in any case.

6 important points to know:
The new scheme will start in 2020 and only applies to new applications, as long as the payback period for solar panels is well above 7 years.

  • There will be a transitional arrangement for current owners of solar panels who make use of the netting scheme. They also have to deal with the feed-in subsidy.
  • You only receive a feed-in subsidy for electricity that is supplied to the grid. You do not pay energy tax on electricity that you store or consume directly. In practice, this can turn out to be financially more advantageous compared to the feed-in subsidy.
  • The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) will have 1 central counter for applying for the subsidy. The payment is arranged via the energy bill of your energy supplier.
  • Many owners still use an old meter with a return wheel. Wiebes suggests in a letter to parliament that a smart energy meter is required for the feed-in subsidy.
  • The letter does not explicitly state that the feed-in subsidy will continue to apply to a small user connection (3x80A). This also includes many agricultural companies.

Scheme for offices
In addition to solar energy, the feed-in subsidy will soon also apply to other renewable energy sources, such as wind energy. Wiebes is still investigating whether offices and other companies can also be included in the scheme. It is also being examined whether the Postcode rose scheme for supporting energy cooperatives can be replaced by a feed-in subsidy.

This is the end of solar panels can never earn back

You do not pay energy tax on electricity that you store or consume directly.

No hehe, this cannot be measured either because this current goes directly to the consumers via the meter box. This current doesn't even pass the meter. This is already the case.

And 'return wheel'??? What a weird term that is. You mean the Ferrari meter? It rotates both forwards and backwards.
Willem June 18, 2018
People who buy freelancers, instead of going on a plane holiday, are being screwed over. And the smart meter is pushed down your throat. It's nice to pay dynamic electricity for all of them later.
Janssen June 18, 2018
We're getting screwed again.
By the state. If you do something to save money on power consumption.
For a longer period of time.
Gerrit Rutgers June 18, 2018
A reliable government is important in this regard, but again it turns out not to be the case. Invested in what was there and not in a crystal ball.
Rick June 19, 2018
I was about to buy solar panels, I'm glad I haven't already.

So they want everyone to get rid of the solar panels and gas, but also take away the benefits that the solar panels provide from the environmentally conscious citizen.

Do you want to do something good and you will be punished, typical of the Netherlands

This form of payback already works for connections >3x80A. The payback model is also more than conclusive there via the SDE+. 7 years is a good ROI. Not everything revolves around money in the world. CO2 reduction weighs more heavily in this. Give the future generation a future too.
Peter June 19, 2018
So there you have it. Energy and the environment are "big business" and the new cash cow of the state and soon the energy companies.

Solar panels for sale!
End of story!!!!!

Wiebes lays the foundation for eventually attracting the revenues from solar panels to the government.
Is the market liberalized? Why then does the government interfere with what the energy companies are willing to pay for the electricity I generate? Keep your hands off it. And then what a subsidy!! I supply electricity and receive money for it. That has nothing to do with subsidies. But the word subsidy gives kwiebud the opportunity to abolish it later. Then no tax on the use of your self-generated energy. Apparently he thinks that something like this could in principle be taxable.
Bet that in due course there will be a cabinet that will introduce such a tax.
I know another one, you don't have to pay income tax and VAT on apples from your own tree for the time being.
Consumers do not fall for this.

They are big hypocrites in the government, you can trust your worst enemy even better. They first make an extremely pious face and later pull the skin over your head, often under the heading of changed views.
John June 19, 2018
And Kwiebus first. First killed the old-timer arrangement in Groningen and tells beautiful stories and now he's taking you again with the solar panels!

Let them clean up their own mess first
backyard the “Belastingdienst”. Before they come up with other Toys.
They can't handle this, “Belastingdienst” is already overwrought.
Good luck to the Tax and Customs Administration with the headhunters in The Hague, they don't have ears. Just an abundance of shortsightedness.
Abolish “Dividend Tax”. And your new (ex) employer
(Shell) keep your job free when you're done with the scheming
In the Hague Tower. Good luck Netherlands!!!!!!

Agri June 19, 2018
Fortunately I don't have that rubbish on my roof, in 3 years there will be a new system that will make the current solar panels completely obsolete and I'd rather wait for that
gutters June 19, 2018
Is there already a device that can switch my cold store when you get money for electricity consumption. I don't have solar panels on my roof. Think I can relieve the grid by taking power at the right time

Filthy, totally unreliable government. Treat the government the same way. Unbelievable what a gang of crooks. There is really no financial planning to do with this rig.

Dear Grandmothers.
I've been testing that device...for 4 months...made it myself...just for this I came up with it.

What a grumbling and whining again at the government. Can it ever do anything right with the majority of you commenters? I see it this way, there was now one scheme that was attractive and now another is coming which is less attractive but still with a 7 year payback. In agriculture, there are not many investments that can be recouped within such a period.
John with the cap June 20, 2018
Still a great investment, those panels last longer than 7 years. I think this is a very justified austerity. I do think that aviation should be dealt with sooner, it mainly affects the richer polluters and that is urgently needed.
Skirt June 20, 2018
Why tax something that is precisely necessary to achieve the climate goals? It is measuring with 2 standards, a joke, they should reduce the payback period to 0 years.
