AVR harvester houses self-propelled ingenuity

Potato fullliner AVR gives their offset harvester Esprit a makeover. The new model, which will be presented at the Potato Demo Day, bears the name Lynx. The most important news is the addition of the Varioweb cleaning module and an automatic cleaning program.

AVR from Roeselare sees future in trailed 2-row harvester harvesters. They sell it a lot in France and the United Kingdom (UK), but also in the Netherlands. The Northern Netherlands (seed potato) companies in particular are charmed by the concept. "Even if you have top drivers, a wagon harvester still harvests neater than a bunker harvester," says sales manager Jos den Boer. "Simply because there are fewer directional changes in the machine."

Fully hydraulic
The manufacturer emphasizes that this is not a simple Update goes, but a brand new model. From a distance it looks pretty even, but the innovations are under the hood. It is hydraulically driven by 4 hydraulic pumps: 2 times LS and 2 times EP (electronically proportional). The Bosch pumps achieve greater efficiency and respond faster. With the tractor hydraulics you still operate the elevator, so that it can always be operated. Air brakes are the new standard.

At the very back you will find the Varioweb cleaning unit, which is already known from the Puma self-propelled. An infinitely adjustable bypass belt over the 18 axial rollers allows you to adjust the cleaning aggressiveness. The axial rollers can be combined with a hedgehog belt. Cross rollers made of plastic are also available for lighter soils. An intermediate belt fills the elevator evenly, which should work more product-friendly. The drain has been widened 10 centimeters and now measures 95 centimeters internally. The bulkheads are slightly slanted, which increases capacity.

Shaker automatic
AVR is proud of the beater automatics, which it also launched on the Puma 3. Sensors measure the pressure on the drive and adjust the knock intensity on the sieving web. This is also optionally available on the digging mat. "It not only provides more comfort for the driver, but also greatly improves potato quality," says Den Boer. "You can create a program for the automation in the touchscreen terminal. This also comes from the self-propelled driver. With a joystick you control the most used functions. The screen can be set up according to your own wishes. You can save infinite settings so that you can plot, variety and soil type always have the right settings."

There is a fixed ratio between the rotational speed of the second and third web, compared to the digging web. The hedgehog unit is adjustable in angle, just like the axial rollers. The latter is especially interesting in the hills. Tippers with a bulkhead height of 3,15 meters can be filled to the bottom. Delivery to the left is possible. You can harvest both miter and in-line with the push of a button. In the mouth you will still find plastic diabolos and no probes.

Price advantage
The 8.500 kilo machine is mounted on a VF 380/85R38 tire on the elevator side and on 650/65R30 on the other side, which is considerably larger than on the old Esprit. Higher tires should make hydraulic drive of the axle superfluous. It is not available. AVR will start this year with 10 zero-series machines and full production will start in 2019. The gross price of a Varioweb machine is €135.000 in the books. That is still €115.000 less than a revised Puma self-propelled machine, which makes it interesting to buy a new trailed machine. The operation of the AVR self-propelled harvesters is also known: a touchscreen with buttons.

Do you still have to buy a tractor?

Neat price for advanced machine. Seed potato farmers like to decide their own harvesting moment and they like to harvest carefully. So rather not a contractor. A tractor is often there because of all the arable activities, otherwise it is possible to rent for two weeks. I see potential for this machine.

I see little difference with an old Grimme DL 1500, different color and a screen, for the rest it does the same.

Drive yourself with Grimme GT 170, very content with it. No bunker harvester here either!

Don't know if you saw it harvesting yesterday, but I found the machine to be very steep to get over that big wheel. This caused a lot of potatoes to roll on the sieving mats. Doesn't seem desirable to me either. Nice cleaning unit

Now also build a fall-through mat in between, then there will be even more sales.
Then I want to buy it.
Does anyone know if this is for sale Grimme had this but I think it has stopped again.
