Tractor update and mega choppers at John Deere

29 August 2018 - Niels van der Boom

John Deere introduces 4 new shredders for grass and silage maize. It concerns the new top model series 9000. The heaviest model has a 970 hp V12 engine. In addition, the 6R, 8R and 8RT tractors for model year 2019 will receive updates. These should increase driver comfort.

The biggest news is the new 9000 Series forage harvesters from John Deere. It's been working on that for years. They will see the light of day at the Farm Progress Show in the United States (US) this week and will be introduced in Europe at the same time. There are 4 models with power ratings from 625 to 970 hp. Besides the smallest type, they have a V12 24 liter engine that the German Liebherr developed together with Deere. It runs up to 1.400 rpm and the maximum working width is 9 meters (12 rows of maize) with the new 772 Kemper jaws.

Chopping more and more accurately
The manufacturer says that it meets the wishes of customers who want more capacity. The top model can chop about 400 tons of maize per hour without compromising quality. It's not simply a matter of throwing more power, Deere said. A new kernel processor: XStream should take care of that. It works 10% more productively than on the existing machines.

As may be expected, the professional machines are full of electronics such as RTK GPS and an NIR sensor (Harvestlab). As standard, you get 5 years of the wireless support system JDLink and 1 year of digital data sharing (telematics). The improved automatic system on the discharge pipe can fill both sideways and when mowing itself. If you connect the NIRS sensor to the chopping cage, the cutting length is automatically adjusted to the dry matter content of the product.

Updates for 6R
Earlier on wrote We already talked about updates that John Deere is making on the 6R tractors. In the cab a new terminal, multi-function joystick and technical updates such as a heavier hydraulic pump. From February 1, Deere will ship the new models for MY19. Both the 4- and 6-cylinder are being modified. The largest 6230R and 6250R are already equipped with these options. Possibly there is also a 300 hp model: the 6300R.

8R(T) with more comfort
Also on display at the Farm Progress Show in Iowa are the 8R wheeled and 8RT tracked tractors. Things have also been adjusted here for model year 2019. The cabins on the crawler tractors will soon all be equipped with cabin suspension, in addition to pneumatic track suspension. The controls have been improved. Thanks to a new steering pump, it reacts more accurately and the sensitivity is adjustable.

A different design diesel and Adblue tank provide more tank capacity, which increases by 6% and 12%. Both fuel caps are now next to each other, making it easier to refuel. By mounting the Adblue tank elsewhere, it is now easier to set up machines at the front. The changes will be implemented from December 1.

5R improvements
For those who think a 1.000 hp forage harvester or 400 hp tractor is too much of a good thing, John Deere also has something new on the smaller 5R range. It runs from 90 to 125 hp. These will be available ex works from 2019 AutoTrac (RTK GPS) and Isobus-ready. Special in this class. JDLink telematics is also an option with a 5-year subscription.

For road transport, the 4 models get a boost of 10 hp from the 4,5 liter Deere engine that does not use AdBlue. A manual 16x16, electric or 8-speed powershift are available. It drives at 40 km/h at 1.760 rpm. The CVT Autopowr is unfortunately not (yet) incorporated in the tractor. For work in orchards, there will be a 5RN, which is a maximum of 1,70 meters wide. The popular 5R is available ex works with GPS and luxuriously equipped with, among other things, front axle suspension.
