Gathering dust at the German edition of Potato Europe

12 September 2018 - Niels van der Boom

Just like the growing season, the annual European potato event Potato Europe also shows an enormous contrast with 2017. It is gathering dust in Germany, where in 2017 that was still dredging in the mud in Emmeloord.

The German edition of Potato Europe will be held at Rittergut Bockenrode, near Hanover. The international fair rotates between 4 countries. Last year the fair in Emmeloord ended in a fiasco after a huge container of water fell. The first trading day was even cancelledbecause a storm was coming.

In Germany, water had to be brought onto the land so that the material would not hinder the harvesting demonstrations. There are no spectacular innovations. A number of new machines were already introduced at the Potato Demo Day in Westmaas, such as the new harvester from AVR and the transfer combination from Dewulf. For many interested parties it is the first opportunity to see Grimme's Ventor bunker harvester in action.

Despite the presence of employees who check safety, everyone at the harvesting demos still tries to be on top of things.

While the first day of the AgroTechniek Holland (ATH) trade fair in Biddinghuizen starts with rain, the German machines do their work in the dust.

In order not to hinder the harvesting demos by dust, water was driven over the plot with manure tanks the day before.

The demonstrations remain popular. All well-known harvester brands show their latest machines. There is also a lot of interest in overcharging techniques.

Grimme showcases a slew of machines it launched last fall. The crowd puller is the Ventor self-propelled bunker harvester, but also the EVO 290 trailed harvester.

In addition to machines and stands, there are also tests (for example, those of mechanical haulm killing). In addition to the Dutch Rema haulm puller, electrocution of the haulm can also be seen.
