Under the influence of a high price for goat milk, dairy goat farming has shown growth again. Slowly but surely, the sector is leaving the Q fever period behind. Time to see where on average the farms in the Netherlands have the most dairy goats. That's what the new Top 5, composed by the CBS.
The Netherlands has a total of 346.405 dairy goats spread over 487 farms. This yields a national average of 711 units per company. This indicates that the sector has shown significant growth since 2013. At that time, the farms still had an average of 524 animals.
Ede, Gelderland, comes first when it comes to the number of goat farms. No fewer than 15 companies color the landscape there. On the other hand, most goats are located in Landerd in North Brabant.
Landerd also comes first in the Boerenbusiness Top 5. On average there are 3.653 animals on a farm. In second place is also a municipality in North Brabant: Alphen-Chaam. There are an average of 2.038 animals walking around. Noord-Brabant also supplies the municipality that takes third place. This is Haaren, where an average of 1.690 animals roam.
Finally, in fourth and fifth place come Leurdal (Limburg) and Oirschot (North Brabant). On average there are 1.396 and 1.269 animals, respectively.
