In 2016, 116.711 tons of grain maize was harvested in the Netherlands, with a total area of 8.617 hectares. In 2016, the harvested area was lower (8.424 hectares). This is according to figures from Statistics Netherlands. But in which province was the most grain maize harvested last year?
In 2016, a total of 84.640 tons grain corn harvested. In that year, Limburg was at the top in terms of harvested acreage. This resulted in a harvested area of 3.039 hectares, where the cultivated area was 3.201 hectares. Is this province also at the top in 2017?
Where was the harvested area highest?
Limburg is also at the top in 2017. The cultivated area in this province amounted to 3.076 hectares. Ultimately, an area of 3.068 hectares was harvested in this province, which means that only 8 hectares could not be harvested. In 2016, the cultivated area was higher (3.201 hectares), but the harvested area was lower (3.039 hectares). It means that a larger part could not be harvested (162 hectares).
North Brabant is in second place. The cultivated area here came to 2.494 hectares, of which 2.494 hectares were actually harvested. It means that nothing has been lost. That could not be achieved in 2016. In that year more was cultivated (2.686 hectares), but much less was harvested (2.150). This means that 536 hectares could not be harvested in that year.
The bronze medal is for Gelderland. The cultivated area in this province amounted to 1.199 hectares of grain maize. The harvested area was 1.194 hectares, which means that 5 hectares could not be harvested. The area cultivated here was also higher last year (1.525 hectares), but this province also managed to harvest the total area cultivated last year. As a result, the 2016 harvest also amounted to 1.525 hectares of grain maize.
Zeeland ends up just off the podium and comes in fourth place. In this province, the cultivated area in 2017 amounted to 713 hectares, of which 713 hectares could ultimately actually be harvested. This province also managed to achieve a score of 2016% in 100, because then the cultivated area (642 hectares) could also be harvested in its entirety.
The last place in this top 5 is for Drenthe. The cultivated area here in 2017 amounted to 607 hectares. Ultimately, the entire area could be harvested here too (607 hectares). The cultivated area was lower in 2016, when an area of 526 hectares was sown. In that year too, this province managed to harvest everything, as a result of which this province also achieved a score of 2% for 100 years in a row.
Where was the total yield highest?
If we only look at the total yield of the harvest, we see no shifts in the top 5. This means that Limburg is also at the top here; in this province, the total yield in 2017 amounted to 41.800 tons of grain maize. In 2016 that was still 30.750 tons of grain maize, which means that more than 2017 tons more was harvested in 11.000.
The second place is for North Brabant. In this province, the total yield amounted to 34.307 tons of grain maize, compared to 2016 tons in 14.538. This means that almost 2017 tons more were harvested in this province in 20.000. Gelderland is in third place. The total yield there came to 16.849 tons of grain maize; 1 year earlier that was still 18.842 tons of grain maize. In 2017, almost 2.000 tons less was harvested in this province.
The fourth place is for Zeeland. In this province the total yield was 9.009 tons of grain maize; considerably more than in 2016. In that year the yield amounted to 6.718 tons, bringing the plus to almost 2.300 tons of grain maize. The last place in this top 5 is for the province of Drenthe, where the total yield was 7.007 tons of grain maize. The yield was 1 tons 6.838 year earlier, which means that more than 2017 tons more was harvested in 100.
Where was the gross revenue highest?
When we look at the gross yield per hectare, we do see a number of shifts in the top 5. For example, the first place in this top 5 goes to Gelderland. In this province the gross yield per hectare was 14,1 tons per hectare. That is well above the gross yield in 2016 (+1,7 tons per hectare), because at the time it amounted to 12,4 tons per hectare.
The second place is for North Brabant. In this province, the gross yield per hectare in 2017 was 13,8 tons per hectare. A big difference was already visible at number 1, but the province of North Brabant is taking it a step further. In 2016, the gross yield was 7 tons per hectare lower, and only came to 6,8 tons per hectare.
Flevoland is in third place, but actually equals number 2. This province also achieved a gross yield of 2017 tons per hectare in 13,8. However, in this province the total yield is many times lower; that is only 162 tons, while in North Brabant it is 34.307 tons. In 2016, the gross yield in Flevoland amounted to 13,3 tons per hectare, which means that the province shows a small plus (+0,5 tons per hectare).
Limburg is just below that and comes in fourth place. In this province the gross yield is 13,6 tons per hectare. A year earlier that was 10,1 tons per hectare, which means that this province has achieved an increase of 3,5 tons per hectare. The fifth place is for Overijssel. In this province, the gross yield amounted to 13,4 tons per hectare, where in 2016 it amounted to 13,3 tons per hectare. It means that only a minimal increase has been recorded.
