The Russian blockade of European products has given the country a boost in pork production, among other things, Top Agrar reports. For example, Cherkizovo Gruppe announced that in 2016 the sales of meat and meat products increased by approximately 9 percent to a total volume of more than 903.000 tons.
The majority can be attributed to higher sales of poultry meat and products, which increased by 6,4 percent in volume to more than 500.000 tons. The volume of pork and products increased by about 9 percent to more than 184.500 tons. According to the Russians, the increased production is mainly due to higher productivity and a higher health status.
Other meat-producing companies, such as Holding Miratorg, also report increased turnover (27 percent to 43.000 tons), with a further increase in production and sales expected in 2017.
It was previously reported that Rusagro will invest in a pig slaughterhouse, which should be able to slaughter about 2018 pigs per hour by 120. This investment would involve an amount of 8 million euros.
