The German slaughterhouse Westfleisch shops in the kitchen at competitor Danish Crown. Steen Sönnichsen, CEO at the German branch of Danish Crown until November 2016, is switching to competitor Westfleisch to join the management there.
It is reported that Sönnichsen will officially join Westfleisch on 1 December 2017 and will focus on the production of meat and the purchase of pigs. In a statement, Westfleisch says that the arrival of a third board member is appropriate for the size of the company. With the arrival of the former Danish Crown CEO, Westfleisch claims to be bringing in an expert with more than 30 years of experience in the meat industry.
In November 2016 it was already announced that Steen Sönnichsen would immediately stop as CEO at Danish Crown, because he wanted to focus on a challenge outside the company. With the switch to Danish Crown it becomes known what this challenge will be. Sönnichsen is currently still active at Danish Crown, only as an advisor. In November 2017, this advisory position will expire and it can be transferred to the competitor.
At the end of last year, Sönnichsen - then still as CEO of Danish Crown - provoked in the German media by labeling the 'Vereinigungspreis' in Germany as nonsensical. It is known in the corridors that Westfleisch does a lot of business on this listing.
