Apeldoorn gets an upgrade

Vion invests many millions in route to Asia

1 March 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Apeldoorn will be the transit lock from Vion to Asia. In order to continue to meet the highest export certification requirements, Vion is overhauling the Gelderland location. In total, Vion is investing around 8 million euros to remain at the forefront of the Asian sales market.

Out of pocket, or unknown investor?

'Asia in particular is a growth market, where we see many opportunities for the optimal value of the pigs we process,' says Frans Stortelder, COO of the Pork division. In addition to modernization, Vion will also be expanding in Apeldoorn. According to Stortelder, Vion will carry out the entire pork processing process in the city of Gelderland. In other words; from deboning to forwarding. For example, new packaging space is being set up, especially for the Asian market.

It is not stated where Vion gets the money from. September last year it was announced that Vion is looking for a new shareholder who can provide the slaughterhouse with a capital injection. At the end of last year, the news buzzed through the market that the VanDrieGroup might join Vion† Whether the two parties will actually work together is unknown to date. Recently inquired Boerenbusiness still to the state of affairs, but that did not yield any result.
