The pig market seems to be working towards a climax. According to analysts, the European slaughterhouses will have a challenge in the coming period to get the hooks full. That is stated in the Market Special Pigs that Boerenbusiness released on Friday.
Easter is the first serious test for the pig market this year. In the period from March to the beginning of April, this led to rapidly rising meat, pig and piglet prices. After all, in the run-up to Easter, the pig market was reaching a climax and the piglet market could also benefit from this.
Prices can run their course
The question is how the price development in these markets will continue as the spring progresses and the summer months start to arrive. The lack of piglets means that pig prices can run their course in the coming months. Can pig farmers expect a run?
Highlight in September
Signals indicate that the European pig market, also this year, can work towards a peak in September. A tight supply will act as a driver. This will of course be with some fluctuations and with a correction here and there. Prices higher than 2 euros per kilo cannot be ruled out in advance, if a number of puzzle pieces coincide favorably. This would be unique.
