Number of PED virus outbreaks on the rise

4 May 2017 - Wouter Baan

The Animal Health Service (GD) warns about the PED virus. The cold temperatures allow the virus to survive more easily, so that the risk of infection remains present. Since the beginning of April, 13 pig farms have tested positive.

This means that the number of outbreaks has increased. In March, the virus was only detected in 9 companies. So far this year 40 companies have tested positive for the PED virus.

Be careful with external contacts

Especially the south of the country
On all these farms there was diarrhea in sows, fattening pigs or piglets. In most cases, these are companies in the south of the country.

The GD therefore calls on you to be careful with all external contacts, via people, vermin and livestock vehicles. Even with rising temperatures, the PED virus can still be active. The hygiene protocols drawn up must therefore be observed by all parties involved.
