Kick-off on May 29

Feed track pig farming almost to start

24 May 2017 - Wouter Baan

The voluntary feed track in pig farming will start on Monday 29 May. The scheme aims to reduce phosphate production by one million kilos this year. The scheme is open for inspection from today 24 May.

Pig farmers who purchase feed with a lower phosphorus content receive an allowance for the additional costs. A total of 4 million subsidy has been made available for the reduction of one million kilos of phosphate in compound feed. Pig farmers can register until 26 June.

You can register until June 26th

The implementation of the scheme falls under the responsibility of the Producers Organization for Pig Farming (POV), which collaborates with Flynth Accountant and Advisers for this purpose.

Calculation and burden of proof
The allowance is granted for the number of kilograms of phosphate with which the purchase will be reduced in 2017. This is calculated per average number of pigs in 2017, compared to the same number of pigs in the same period in 2016. Livestock balance cards and feed year overviews serve as the burden of proof.

Keep derogation
The scheme is part of the package of measures to reduce phosphate production to the level of the derogation decision for broader manure standards. The aim of the scheme is to maintain this exceptional position after this year.

Maintaining the derogation is crucial for Dutch pig farming. According to a calculation of Wageningen Economic Research (WUR) In the short term, the loss of the derogation results in an annual fall in income of EUR 5000 on average.
