On the liquid feed market, supply and demand are reasonably in balance, while raw material prices certainly do not drive up prices. Except for residual flows from the potato processing industry, relatively few price movements can be detected.
The price of potato steam peels has already been adjusted upwards twice in recent weeks. The various suppliers have increased the price per percent of dry matter by about 2 cents. Traditionally, many potatoes are processed during this period of the year. However, less is being processed this year. This has to do with the limited harvest in 20.
There is a strong demand from livestock farming. Especially now that the grass is being removed from the land. Steam peels are a popular covering material for the pit. That is why supplier Duynie has increased the price of covering steam peels by 2,50 euros per tonne.
In the period from the end of June to mid-July, some potato processors have a production stop and there is no or less operation. This also means that no residual flows are released. As it stands now, the production stops will take place fairly consecutively. Nevertheless, less product is expected from July until the new harvest. Whether the price will continue to rise remains to be seen. In any case, it cannot be ruled out.
Price floor for brewer's yeast?
Supplier Bonda and Duynie reduced the prices of some wheat yeast concentrates at the beginning of May. The price of brewer's yeast has also fallen this spring. Beer production is usually increased in the spring. As the weeks progress and summer arrives, the beer factories go back into production. This means that fewer residual flows will be released from June. However, that is not yet the case. However, it is expected that the price of brewer's yeast has (almost) reached its bottom.
Soy prices falling
An interesting fact is that the soy price is falling again, after the quotation on the CBoT in Chicago actually rose in April and early May. The decline is a result of disappointing American export figures. Various by-products, such as brewer's yeast and wheat yeast concentrates, sometimes react to this raw material. It is not likely that prices will move accordingly. Wheat yeast concentrates have already fallen in price at the beginning of May. In addition, the production of protiwanze has now been halted for several days. In principle, suppliers have sufficient stock to be able to supply, but for the time being this prevents TGCs from moving with soy. To achieve this, (feed) commodities will have to decline further.
The expected short-term trend for soy is negative. With a decline of 1,5 percent, a closing price of $ 30 per ton was reached on Tuesday, May 335,38. This means the lowest price since the beginning of April 2016. Perhaps the expected price drop will eventually provide some price relief on the liquid feed market.
