Tönnies is allowed to export to China again

June 1, 2017 - Kimberly Bakker

The German slaughterhouses Tönnies and Böseler Goldschmaus are allowed to export pork to China again. This is reported by the German Radio Glütrsloh.

The companies were no longer allowed to supply pork to China since mid-February. That export ban was valid for 3 months. One of the reasons for this was probably that the Chinese had received spoiled meat. That was due to the failure of a freezer container.

Clemens Tönnies would have personally taken care of it.

Influence of Clemens Tonnies
According to pig farming organization ISN, director Clemens Tönnies personally ensured that the company received the permit back. He had traveled to China with a delegation from the German Foreign Minister, Sigmar Gabriel.

Germany important to China
The consequences of closing the market were major. Germany is the leading supplier of pork to China. The so-called Chen articles (ears, legs and tail) are seen as a delicacy in China.
