In May, pig farmers had to tap off less money for chunks. However, this will not return prices to the lower level at which the year started. The risk of higher prices will also remain in the coming period. More in an analysis of Boerenbusiness Enter.
In May, the price of pork chunks will drop to 23,65 euros per 100 kilos. That is a minus of 0,05 euros per 100 kilos compared to a month earlier. This means that the price remains well above the level of January and February.
Cheaper kibble types
Not only pork chunks are falling in price, but other types have also become cheaper. For example, baby piglet pellet writes a minus of 0,05 euros to arrive at 34,60 euros per 100 kilos. Starter/transition pellet costs 27,55 euros per 100 kilos (a minus 0,10 euros), sow pellet pregnancy costs 23,25 euros per 100 kilos (a minus 0,10 euros) and sow pellet lakto closes with 28 euros per 100 kilos. (one minus 0,10 euros).
The latest forecasts show that pork still tends to become more expensive. That danger will continue until October. It is not yet possible to say what role the feeder track will play. Especially because compound feed producers indicate that they already have less phosphorus in the feed compared to one year earlier.
The drought in France temporarily caused a stir on the raw materials market, but since the end of May the wheat exchange has been recording lower prices again.
