The Dutch slaughter figure has never been so high in 2017. France also breaks a record, while many pigs have also been slaughtered in Germany. The well-filled slaughter hooks at slaughterhouses have a cause.
In week 22, 303.000 pigs were slaughtered in the Netherlands. This is an increase of almost 25 percent compared to the previous week. However, the slaughter figures were depressed due to the cancellation of a slaughter day (Ascension Day).
So far in 2017, the slaughter figure has exceeded the psychological limit of 2 pigs twice. This was significantly more common in previous years. The slaughter figure is expected to fall below this limit again in the coming weeks. This is because the broken weeks in the Netherlands are passé for the time being.

Weight on return
In recent months, the pigs in the Netherlands were downright heavy, weighing well over 96 kilos. This trend appears to be on the decline, as the average weight is below 96 kilos for the second week in a row. In week 22, the slaughtered pigs weighed an average of 95,64 kilos.
Germany tops million
The German slaughter figure recorded 1.004.699 pigs, which weighed an average of 97,39 kilos. This is the second largest number this year. Here too, the hooks are full because of Ascension Day. Just like in the Netherlands, the slaughtered pigs in Germany weigh slightly less than a few weeks ago.
The 381.025 pigs slaughtered are good for a provisional slaughter record this year. The month of May in France was characterized by many delays. This is due to the cancellation of slaughter days, which is reflected in the increased pig supply at the beginning of June.
