The pig price is leaning on the supply and is facing a blockage on the meat market. That was the situation at the beginning of this week in the pig market. However, the weather forecast is tropical, while the broken weeks are finally behind us. What does this mean for the DCA Scholarship Prize 2.0?
It should come as no surprise that the German pork price remained unchanged on Wednesday afternoon, June 14. The quotation of 1,81 euros per kilo was based on a broken week. Due to Corpus Christi, Thursday, June 15 was a slaughter day.
In addition, fewer pigs were slaughtered in Germany last week, due to Whit Monday. In the week of Pentecost, 869.641 pigs were hanging on the hooks in Germany, with an average weight of 97,32 kilos. This means the weights are in line with the previous week.
According to insiders on the German market, supply had been tight for a full week. From next week it will become clear how the pig supply in Germany will work out in practice during a full slaughter week. The internet fair already made an advance on Friday, June 16, by coming out with a plus 2. Of the 15 lots offered, 14 were traded. Next Wednesday it will become clear what the final effect of this will be for the German pig market.
Drying up supply, pressure on meat prices
The Dutch market feels that the supply of pigs is drying up. The shortage of piglets in early spring is now also starting to show in the numbers of pigs. It is hoped that the tightening supply will have a positive effect on the development of meat prices. Price developments on the meat market are slow.
Meat sellers indicate that the meat changes hands for less money. However, the situation in pig country is starting to resemble that in 2016 (around the beginning of the summer), when there was also a period when the tight supply drove pig prices.
DCA Scholarship Price 2.0
The tightening supply means that the DCA Exchange Price 2.0 will be increased next week. For live pigs this is 2 cents, making it 1,39 euros. For slaughtered pigs, the increase is also plus 2, resulting in a DCA Exchange Price 2.0 of 1,76 euros.
