'Be alert to African swine fever'

4 July 2017 - Wouter Baan

After Poland and Russia, African swine fever has now also been detected in the Czech Republic. According to advocates POV and NVV, the approach of the infectious disease is a worrying development.

Strict hygiene measures are according to the POV and NVV therefore necessary. Because there is no vaccine available against African swine fever, prevention is the only means that the Dutch pig sector can deploy. That is why there is a consultation this week with the trade and transport sector to make agreements about transports returning from risk areas.

Hygiene measures
Livestock farmers are called upon to observe the hygiene rules properly. A possible detection of African swine fever should also be reported immediately to the veterinarian.
