Pork prices in China fall

11 July 2017 - Esther de Snoo

The price of pork in China fell by 3,4% in June. This is reported by the Chinese Statistical Office (NBS).

According to the NBS comes the price drop by an abundant supply of pork. At the same time, the demand is also lagging. Compared to the same period last year, the price is 16,7% lower.

New Balance
Not only the market influences and the new balance between supply and demand play a role. Wei Li, China's Commonwealth Bank economist, said weak demand is a major reason. This has to do with the sky-high prices of the past year. The fall in the pig price is in line with the fall in consumer price inflation.
