African swine fever is advancing west

African swine fever is spreading rapidly westward. For the first time, infected boars have been found in the Czech Republic. This is reported by the German website Agrarheute.com.

In The Czech Republic has now reported 10 cases of African swine fever† It concerns 10 wild boars that died of the disease. The fear is that the death of the boars found is not an isolated incident. It could indicate that the African swine fever virus is spreading among a wild boar population in the region. 

African swine fever occurs in 5 European countries

The boars found show that the disease is moving westward. Until now, the disease has only been found in Ukraine, 400 km away and Poland about 600 km away.

In 5 European countries
African swine fever has been detected in 5 European countries. These are the Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland with outbreaks since 2014. The disease is also spreading among swine in Georgia, as well as in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova.

There is no risk of infection for humans.
