The harvest period of the POV is approaching. "After sowing work in 2016, it is now time for pig farmers to reap the benefits," says POV chairman Ingrid Jansen. Chain concepts are the keyword here.
The development of chain concepts falls under the heading 'Support Chain Concepts Pig Farming Scheme'. An amount of €980.000 will be made available for this. Collectives of pig farmers have from Monday 17 July to Friday 18 August to register for the scheme.
The scheme is a result of the Vitalization Pig Farming Action Plan, which was presented in June 2016. This action plan is supported by Rabobank and the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
being distinctive
In a chain concept, pig farmers produce meat that is distinctive. Pig farmers do this in consultation with chain partners such as (feed) suppliers and slaughterhouses. A chain concept responds to social themes, such as origin, welfare and the use of feed raw materials.
In addition to ‘social profit’, the producer's income position is of course also central. According to Jansen, the development of chain concepts is a new format for a stronger pig sector.
Focus on yieldÂ
With the money made available, the POV is serious about increasing the yields in pig farming. At an earlier stage, February 2017, the POV tackled the cost side of business operations and the Manure Processing Stimulation Scheme opened up. A scheme that aims to improve the value of manure.Â
