After tumultuous weeks, the European pig market has calmed down. Pig prices are mainly shifting sideways and the Internet exchange has also remained unchanged.
Contrary to expectations, the Nord/West quotation remained unchanged at €1,70 per kilo. In the ISN price comparison, the German pig price therefore remains at €1,646 per kilo. Virtually all European pig prices remained on the same footing this week.
The French pig price is an exception, dropping by €0,01 to €1,681 per kilo. The Spanish pig price is unable to pass the €1,90 threshold, despite the tourist season and declining slaughter weights. This is due to the more difficult sales to China.
Slaughterhouses leave hauspreis
It is unlikely that the German pig price will return to the upward trend on Wednesday 26 July. Both noises in the market and the Internet exchange give no reason to expect price turmoil. The Internet exchange was quoted unchanged on Tuesday 25 July at €1,75 per kilo.
The expectation in Germany is that the large slaughterhouses will continue to stick to the 'hauspreis'. The pig market may be able to cautiously look upwards again at the beginning of August, based on impulses on the meat market.
