Vion's pig price is the first quotation in Northwest Europe that points to the deteriorating market conditions.
The Dutch market leader has reduced the pig price by €0,03 to €1,66 per kilo. According to Vion, there is an increasing pig supply. The meat quotations of the various components subsequently suffer as a result. The price of the forequarters, bellies and hams is under pressure.
Lots of competition
Within Europe there is a lot of competition between countries. Outside Europe, the stronger euro means a less favorable export position. A price reduction was therefore unavoidable, as Vion justified the decision.
