Danish Crown invests in outdoor pigs

13 September 2017 - Wouter Baan

Tulip, the British subsidiary of Danish Crown, has acquired Easey Holdings. By means of the takeover, Tulip is trying to strengthen the activities within the so-called 'outdoor pigs' segment.

Easey Holdings is a company, with several branches, within the free range segment. In addition to a breeding branch, the company focuses on feed production and livestock transport. Veterinary services are also provided.

The company Easey Holdings can be seen as a total concept, from piglet production to the production of pigs ready for slaughter. Participating pig farmers focus entirely on keeping free-range pigs within the concept.

With the acquisition, Danish Crown is responding to the growing demand for meat from free-range pigs in Great Britain. For example, the supply of slaughter pigs for Tulip is recorded.

Jais Valeur, CEO at Danish Crown, expects the financial results of the faltering Tulip to receive a boost as a result of the acquisition. The acquisition still has to be approved by the British competition authority.
