Periphery supports revitalization of pig farming

22 September 2017 - Wouter Baan - 2 comments

Agrifirm, ForFarmers, Topigs Norsvin and Vion are joining the Coalition for the Vitalization of Pig Farming (ViVa) as partners. The Coalition currently consists of the Pig Farming Producers Organization (POV), Rabobank and the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

According to the 4 companies, capacity and cooperation are crucial now that the Dutch pig farming industry is facing major challenges. According to the companies, other partners are also welcome to participate in the vitalization plan. "Forces must be joined to strengthen all links in the chain."

The next 2 years are crucial

The goal of the Coalition is to guarantee quality, transparency and sustainability in the Dutch pig sector. Chairman Uri Rosenthal says that collaboration should ensure better earnings and continue to reach the changing consumer. “This is a shared responsibility,” says Rosenthal.

Partnership is not without obligation
Joining the chain parties in the Coalition is the next step in the implementation of the Pig Farming Vitalization Action Plan. According to Rosenthal, the next two years will be very important to make the Vitalization Plan a success.

A Coalition partnership is not without obligation, Rosenthal emphasizes. It requires keeping agreements and making financial resources available. The 'capability principle' applies to the requested financial contribution. The size of the company is taken into account.

Very nice, such a large coalition!! Perhaps those who quit can now look forward to a better financial arrangement. Whether this will now be used to remove partitions between the sectors? So that quitters can finally get a good feeling about POV membership... Annie Schreijer's plan is not so crazy.

Keep dreaming Joop.
The partners from the periphery all have an interest in as many pigs as possible.
Scots will remain there if you let this club impose its will on you.

bulkheads remain

intensive dairy farmers take over the land from the quitters, extensive dairy farmers take over the rights of the quitters. There must first be a land-based dairy farm before decommissioning can be considered.
