The pig market seems to be blowing off steam. There is still a large supply of pigs, but the mood is slowly but surely improving. What does this have to do with the DCA Scholarship Prize 2.0?
The German pork price recorded its fourth reduction in a row on Wednesday, October 4. This time the quotation fell by €0,03 to €1,50 per kilo. It could well be the last reduction for a while.
Although the Internet Exchange had to lose €6 to €0,01 on Friday, October 1,53, there is still good hope that the pig market in Germany has fizzled out. This week can be used to eliminate the last oversupply. A full slaughter week offers an opportunity for this.
Still a lot of pigs
In the Netherlands there are recent weeks slaughtered many pigs. It is striking that additional consignments were unloaded in Germany this week, while the slaughterhouses there were closed on Tuesday, October 3. It indicates that the Dutch pig market was chock full. Vion already indicated this on Monday, October 2, when explaining their pig price. It partly has to do with genetics. It is a trend that there are more tempo pigs in circulation and they are difficult to sell in Germany.
Many pigs have been given up for next week and the market is full again. Traders are struggling to get the pigs placed, but it is not certain that this will work. However, the slaughterhouses indicate that pig prices are cautiously allowing them to make margins again, although the bacon market remains under pressure. In addition, the demand for hams is always somewhat tame in the autumn. This is reflected in the changes in the meat market. Hams and backs have fallen by approximately €0,05 per kilo. The other components also decline, but more moderately.
Last drop?
It is probably a week too early for an unchanged DCA Exchange Price 2.0. The quotation for slaughtered pigs drops by €0,02 to €1,41 per kilo. Live pigs are declining at a similar pace, trading at €1,11 per kilo.
It can be seen as the final act of a major cosmetic procedure. In the meantime, €0,21 of the DCA Exchange Price 2.0 has evaporated since mid-September. On the sow market there is more tension in the air at the moment.
