Vion Pork has introduced a new ham, especially for the top segment of the Italian market. The 'Robusto' ham comes from the Good-Farming-Balance chain concept.
Dried Italian ham is renowned and famous worldwide. Through air drying, the ham develops a special taste and consistency. Vion has been supplying hams in Italy for many years. With the Robusto, Vion adds premium quality to this. The hams are distinguished, among other things, by their weight, colour, shape and intramuscular fat.
Level of Champions League
According to Chief Operating Officer (COO), Frans Stortelder, the ham is good enough to enter the Champions League level of Italian ham production. According to the COO, the fact that Vion can guarantee the origin through an integrated production chain is an extra plus. "In the future, that will be at least as important as a competitive price."
Italian ham producers sell their product in various markets, such as Canada, the United States and Japan. Origin and transparency are important conditions for large retail companies. With the 'Good Farming programme', Vion believes it has an answer to this.
