With the pig market stabilising, the mood is visibly improving. Is this really the case, or are appearances deceiving?
After the German pig price stabilized at €11 per kilo on Wednesday, October 1,50, the Internet Exchange immediately took the plunge 2 days later. The indicator increased by €0,03 to €1,55 per kilo, with all 9 parties making a deduction. This shows that the mood on the pig market is improving somewhat. The unchanged quotation came as a surprise to some.
The placement space for next week seems to vary greatly among the slaughterhouses. One slaughterhouse is again blocking the boat, the other is asking for pigs again.
This variation has to do with the slaughter pace of the slaughterhouses. This suddenly creates extra demand in some trade flows, while for others it is still a matter of trial and error. The better mood therefore does not mean that there is suddenly room upwards.
Lots of heavy pigs
The fact that slaughter was 1 day less in Germany last week is clearly reflected in the slaughter figures. In the Netherlands there were 311.000 pigs hanging on hooks. Never before this year has the slaughter line been so busy. There was also a weight record at a slaughterhouse.
In Germany, 890.520 pigs were slaughtered, with an average weight of 98,029 kilos. This means that the pigs are still on the heavy side, but 29 grams lighter than in the previous week.
meat market
The meat market in Asia is showing some elasticity again, probably due to the price drop in recent weeks. The price this comes with is another matter. Purchasing parties act on the cutting edge and reflect purchasing prices in Northwest Europe against the lower price levels in Southern Europe and America.
On the meat market in the Netherlands, the hams mutate unchanged. However, sales are slow. This also applies to the shoulders (-€0,01 per kilo) and the middle part (€-0,03). The pork belly and other parts remain unchanged.
DCA Scholarship Price 2.0
The DCA Exhibition Prize 2.0 has clearly changed in recent weeks. In total, €0,21 to €1,41 per kilo for slaughtered pigs evaporated during those weeks. This is also the price for next week. The price of live pigs remains at €1,11 per kilo. The development of the DCA Stock Exchange Price 2.0 and the German pig price in 2017.
