18 October 2017 - Wouter Baan

The COV will work more closely with Chinese meat companies on food safety and quality assurance. The COV and sister organization Chinese Meat Association (CMA) have signed this intention at the CIMIE in Qingdao (China).

According to COV chairman Jos Goebbels, quality systems such as Vital Kalf and the Holland Varken are central to this knowledge exchange. This ensures food safety. The agreement is also aimed at exchanging knowledge, for example in the field of animal health and sustainable meat production.

China important
The Chinese market is important for the Dutch meat sector. In pigs, especially in terms of square footage. For example, by-products such as ears, nose and paws are in great demand in China. In 2016, the value of pork exports amounted to approximately €700 million.
