Dutch pig supply structurally ample

For the third week in a row, the slaughter figure in the Netherlands exceeds 300.000 pigs. The hooks are also full in Germany and France. What does this mean for the market?

Last week, 305.000 pigs were slaughtered in the Netherlands. That is 6.000 fewer than in the previous week. Compared to the same week in 2016, the slaughter figure is 3,7% higher. Compared to the 5-year average, the difference is even 4,2%. The slaughter figure in the Netherlands exceeds 300.000 pigs every week in October. In previous years, that boundary was never cleared.

In addition, the pigs are much heavier than in 2016. With an average of 95,50 kilos, the difference is 1,55 kilos. In the previous weeks the difference was always more than 2 kilos.

Million massacres in Germany
In Germany, most pigs of this year were slaughtered last week, with 1.040.523 slaughters. This is the result of a broken slaughter week in the previous week. The pigs are also heavier in Germany. With an average slaughter weight of 98,16 kilos, the pigs are 0,59 kilos heavier than in the same week in 2016.

In France, with 367.331 slaughters, the hooks are just 2% better filled than last year. Compared to the 5-year average, the difference is more than 1%. The slaughter figure in the Netherlands, compared to 2016.
