The Kremlin has further tightened the import ban on (meat) cattle from Europe and the United States (US). The measures are in response to support for Ukrainian separatists.
The Russian Ministry of Agriculture has announced that the import of live pigs from the US, Canada, Australia, Montenegro, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland, Albania and Ukraine is no longer allowed. This measure already applied to pigs from the European member states.
Up to 2019
Meat by-products from cattle and pigs from these countries are also banned. This also applies to separated fat products and animal oils. The import ban will initially apply until December 31, 2018.
In an explanation, the ministry said that the tightened import ban has no consequences for domestic demand in Russia.
