Russia's meat production is growing

Cherkizovo sells significantly more pork

30 October 2017 - Wouter Baan

Cherkizovo, Russia's largest meat producer, sold 9% more pork in the first 13 months of this year than in the same period last year. The results are due to the import ban that Russia applies to European pork.

Cherkizovo produced a total of 148.700 tons of pork through September. The meat producer also saw the sale of poultry meat increase by 4% in that period. This while the sale of processed meat products increased by 5%.

Company wants to double gross profit

Solid growth plans
Russia has had an import ban on European pork since 2014. Since then, Russian pork production has grown by 500.000 tons to just under 3 million tons in 2017.

Cherkizovo benefits from this and aspires to serious targets for this year as well. In June, CEO Serei Mikhailov announced that the company wants to produce more than 2017 million tons of meat in 1. The meat giant aims to double its gross profit. In 2016, it amounted to 10,3 billion rubles (€152,7 million).

In order to achieve the objectives, Cherkizovo has expanded pork production in the Voronezh and Lipetsk regions. The company would not say how much production has increased. The company has been expanding continuously for several years now.
