Piglet market sees bottom, Vion makes mood

Piglet sales are still not automatic. Still, trading shows improvements. What does the DCA BestPigletPrice do and what are propagators and fattening pig farmers bickering about?

In Germany there is still talk about a large supply of piglets. The North/West piglet price received another major correction on Monday, November 13, from €2 to €41,50 per piglet. This means that the German piglet market appears to have hit a bottom for the time being, because the trend report for this week is unchanged. In Denmark the quotation also drops by €2 to €49 per piglet (30 kilos).

In the Netherlands it is noticeable that the German piglet market is packed. Traders also report that sales in North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, do not happen automatically. However, trade to Germany is about to pick up. It is expected that German pork farmers will impose restrictions again, now that the pig market has calmed down. The stable trend report is also based on this.

Surcharges discussed
There is some cautious positivity to be seen on the domestic piglet market. There is still a free market, where prices are a few euros lower. A positive starting point is that exports to Spain are picking up somewhat. There is good enforcement within the fixed connections. Now that fattening pig farmers have the market more on their side, there is again bickering here and there about the allowances. Attempts are being made to recoup the allowances incurred this spring.

On balance, there is enough support for a stable DCA BestPigletPrice. The quotation therefore remains at €35,50 per piglet.

Vion: overcrowded meat market
Vion's pork price also remains unchanged at €1,45 per kilo. According to the slaughterhouse, this is 'with difficulty'. The ample pig supply is difficult to place in an impulsive, overcrowded meat market. Vion seems to want to blow away the hope of an end-of-year revival.
