The slaughter figure in the Netherlands is again a record, while the weights also take a significant step up. In France, too, there are hardly any empty slaughter hooks to be counted.
Last week, 323.000 pigs were slaughtered in the Netherlands. This is 1.000 pigs more than in the week before Christmas in 2016. Compared to the same week last year, this is an increase of 9,1%. There is also a plus compared to the 5-year average (+6,6%).
The weights increase by no less than 1,2 kilos to an average of 96,60 kilos. The reason for the slaughter records in the Netherlands is the sharp decline in number of live pigs that the Netherlands exports to Germany.
Above a million
More than 1 million pigs were slaughtered in Germany again last week. This after the slaughter figure took a dip in the previous week. This was due to a broken slaughter week. In total, the German slaughterhouses processed 1.036.961 pigs, which weighed an average of 98,67 kilos. The average weight is also increasing in Germany, by 20 grams to 98,66 kilos per pig.
The French slaughter figure is also good for a podium place. With 380.335 slaughters, this is the third highest number this year. A side note is that France also emerged from a broken slaughter week. Compared to the 2-year average, it is a plus of 5%.Last year's slaughter record was already broken in November.
