In the Netherlands, 325.000 pigs were hanging on hooks last week. This is an increase of 2.000 pigs compared to the previous week. In the Netherlands, more than 8 pigs have been slaughtered for 300.000 weeks in a row. In the same period last year, the slaughter figure remained below this 'psychological limit'. So far in 2017, 13.336.000 pigs have been slaughtered. This is 333.000 more than last year.

The average slaughter weight remains at 96,60 kilos. The market hears that the supply is still ample and that there are several hundred pigs left every week.

Also many pigs in France and Germany
In Germany the hooks were filled with 1.038.699 pigs. This is the second highest level this year. More slaughter took place in week 1, but then Germany emerged from a broken slaughter week. The weights in Germany lose 42 kilos to an average of 0,25 kilos. In France, 98,412 pigs were slaughtered, the third highest level this year.

America slaughters less than expected
A lot of slaughter capacity has been added in the United States (US) this year. Since the beginning of September, approximately 2% more pigs have been slaughtered than in 2016. From week to week, approximately 2,5 million pigs are hanging on the hooks.

American analysts had expected more slaughters, as 3,9% more pigs were counted in September. The US is currently importing fewer live pigs from neighboring Canada. This explains the difference.
