Export licenses on the way

More French pork to China

6 December 2017 - Wouter Baan

China will most likely import more pork and baby food from France. As early as 2015, the Chinese authorities carried out inspections in French processing plants and export licenses were issued 2 years later.

Before foreign slaughterhouses are allowed to export to China, they are inspected by Chinese quarantine inspectors. More than 2 years ago, a number of French slaughterhouses were checked by Chinese officials, but so far the results have not been published.

Results published before the end of the year

The Chinese government promised French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire at the beginning of this week to publish the results before the end of the year. This means that pork exports to China can increase from that moment on. It is not known why the process took so long.

Also baby food and beef
Exporters of beef, baby food and processed meat products will also soon be able to export more to China. So far, only a handful of exporters have access to the Chinese market.

Beef exporters were not allowed to export to China for some time due to an import ban. This ban will probably expire soon.
