The Hilckmann family, of the slaughter company of the same name that suddenly closed its doors in 2016, has no intention of repaying money to the municipality of Nijmegen. They will appeal against the €7 million claim imposed by the court.
Last October, the Arnhem court ruled that the Hilckmann family must repay €7 million. In the summer of 2015, Nijmegen transferred €21,1 million as a buyout fee for the old location that the municipality wanted to close. The planned new location never materialized. That is why the municipality now wants part of the money back.
In the Gelderlander, Hilckmann's lawyers let it be known that they are in talks with the municipality. The lawyers do not want to say what the family is demanding in the appeal. The municipality of Nijmegen is also keeping their mouths shut.
Money to German account
The question is whether the money, which the municipality of Nijmegen is demanding, can be found at all. In October, the court ruled that the municipality is not entitled to private money from the family. The books of the closed meat company show that there is hardly any money. According to the municipality of Nijmegen, business money had been transferred to German accounts in the past.
Nijmegen is committed to closing the headache file as quickly as possible. Then the old slaughter location can be demolished for housing, which is in short supply in Nijmegen. The legal costs, which have now risen to €1 million, are also skyrocketing. In December, the family announced that a quick transfer of the old slaughter location in Nijmegen is not automatic.
