The Producers Organization Pig Farming (POV) and the COV have come up with a quality standard for the pig sector in the Netherlands: the Standards Framework Holland Varken. The POV reports this on Monday 22 January.
Export is a very important part of Dutch pig farming. The buyers of pig products increasingly demand guarantees and transparency in the field of food safety and animal welfare. The products must also be traceable in the chain, according to the POV and the COV.
The POV and the COV want to give substance to the requirements of the customers. That is why they have developed the Standards Framework Holland Pig. This system contains regulations that apply in addition to the current regulations. This quality system enables the sector to provide customers with guarantees in a transparent and unambiguous manner about the method of production.
Financial contribution
Participation in Holland Varken will be financially supported from European support funds made available by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. It concerns an extra quality system, the existing systems will continue to exist. Every pig farmer who participates in the quality system is eligible for a financial contribution.
The European support funds must be paid out by 31 March 2018 at the latest. After publication of the Framework of Standards (February), pig farmers must register as soon as possible. The exact conditions for this will follow shortly.
