Over the past year (2017/2018), participants in the Vion PIG price system receive an average supplementary payment of €1,15 per pig. This extra is due to the Spanish Llerida listing, which was priced unexpectedly high last summer.
The PIG pricing system was launched by the slaughterhouse early last year, as part of 'Good Farming Balance† With this method, pig farmers are guaranteed to be paid a competitive price. The price is in fact based on a 'basket' of European quotations, such as the VEZG quotation (40%), the Danish Crown pig price (20%), the Spanish Llerida quotation (20%) and the Belgian West meat quotation (20). %).
Higher than weekly price
Because the Llerida quotation in Spain was priced unexpectedly high last summer, the PIG price system is higher than the weekly price of Vion. That is why participants within this concept can count on a supplementary payment of €1,20 per kilo (including VAT). This amounts to an average of €1,15 per pig.
According to Vion, the weekly price was in line with the level of the other quotation in the price basket. The slaughterhouse also states that the composition of the PIG price system will remain the same this year.
