Calm on the pig market seems to be slowly but surely returning. Despite this, many traders are stuck with many pigs. What does this have to do with the DCA Scholarship Prize?
On the German pig market, supply pressure turned into a demand market this week. Perhaps that name is a bit exaggerated, but in Germany there is talk of an improved mood. The German slaughterhouses are asking for pigs again.
This can also be seen from the Internet Exchange. That plus for the second time in a row on Friday, January 26. Spread over 2 trading days (Tuesday and Friday), the price rose by €0,02 to €1,36 per kilo. The majority of the pigs offered were traded on both auction days.
Dutch market
This situation cannot be found in the Netherlands. The majority of the pig trade does not get the extensive supply placed with the slaughterers. Terms such as: "There are a lot of pigs" and "We're still not there yet" are thrown around. There are also traders who claim to have eliminated the oversupply. The difference between the situation in the Netherlands and Germany is clearly reflected in the slaughter figures of both countries.
Meat market hit rock bottom
After weeks of price falls, quotations on the meat market have reached a bottom. This is also the case in Denmark, Danish Crown said. Although the road up cannot yet be walked, there are signs that that direction is not necessarily miles away. This ensures peace in the market. That there are problems with the sales of pig bones in China, is annoying, but not necessarily dramatic. The economic consequences are roughly estimated at several euros per carcass.
Stock market price stable
The DCA Exchange Price 2.0 can stabilize for the second week in a row: at €1,22 per kilo for slaughtered pigs and €0,96 per kilo for live pigs. In 2017, the DCA Exchange Price remained stable throughout February. This year could be an exception, as an increase in pork prices appears to be just below the surface. At least those are sounds that optimists make.
