ALV agrees to proposal

COV introduces code of conduct for meat sector

9 February 2018 - Kimberly Bakker - 1 reaction

The Central Organization for the Meat Sector (COV) has introduced its own code of conduct for the sector. The members of the General Members' Meeting (GMM) have agreed to the proposal and will sign the COV Code shortly. The organization reports this on its website.

The COV Code should provide a guideline for appropriate behavior and correct actions. This mainly concerns food safety and the product integrity of animal products. The code was drawn up to prevent further damage to the image of the Dutch meat chain.

"The members of the COV attach great importance to trust in their actions and have therefore drawn up a sector-specific code of conduct. This code supplements the general Code of Conduct for the Food Chain", says Jos Goebbels, chairman of the COV.

animal welfare rules
One of the most important parts of the COV Code is that the animal welfare rules are complied with. Another rule is that companies must do everything they can to ensure that risks of food fraud are minimized. It is important that the members also ensure that the companies make such an effort immediately before and after their own link.

isn't it much better that there is a focus on fairer meat with regard to adding water, herbs and mechanically separated meat, etc., prevention of bear air and water during baking and roasting in the pan
