It can be in pig country. There were still too many piglets a few weeks ago, but now the appetite to buy is suddenly greater than the supply allows. The question is therefore not whether, but how much the DCA BestPigletPrice (BPP) will go up?
The significant increases on the pig market are feed for the demand for piglets. European fattening pig farmers have their sights set on full stables as pig prices return to more remunerative levels. For example, the pig price at Vion will increase by €0,08 to €1,40 per kilo. This means that the country's largest slaughterhouse is making some money, which was not reflected in the listing last week.
Vion comments on the market as having a normal supply of heavy fattening pigs. According to the slaughterhouse, meat sales are in balance. Price increases are being realized on hams, but little or no price increases on the other components. Nevertheless, the market expects that there is still room for improvement in the German pig price, as the supply is insufficient for the slaughter plans that slaughterhouses have.
Piglet market on the rise
Partly due to the positive wind on the pig market, the German piglet price (North/West quotation) has increased from €1 to €40 per piglet. The upward trend that started last week is likely to continue. This is because a trend notification of €1 to €2 has been announced for the German piglet price. By the way, there are no immediate serious shortages of piglets in Germany. The supply corresponds to the demand.
In the Netherlands there are too few piglets here and there to meet the demand. Sales to Spain still consume considerable volumes. The piglet price increased last week by €1,50 to €41,50 per piglet, something that makes piglet export profitable. Converted from Danish crowns to euros, the Danish piglet price increases by €2,10 to €48,40 per piglet (30 kilos). The BPP is also planning another increase this week: from €1,50 to €41 per piglet.
| DCA BestPigletPrice (week 7) | Price range statements | Number of problems | Average of the problems |
| €41,00(+1,50) | € 39,00 - € 41,50 | 22 | €40,52 |
| Explanation of the listing: DCA Listings decided this week to round up, because conversations with the pig trade made it clear that not all demand for piglets can be met. | |||
