There seems to be no end to the rising pig prices for the time being. The Internet exchange has again put the German pig price (the VEZG listing) on edge, while European pig prices are following the rising pace.
In the ISN price comparison, the pig price in Germany increases by €0,07 to €1,34 per kilo. The same increase is visible in the Netherlands (€1,28) and Belgium (€1,26).
The positives are more moderate in the Southern European countries. In Spain, the pig price increases by €0,04 to €1,38 per kilo, while the French quotation increases by 'only' €0,02 to 1,34 per kilo. Almost everywhere in Europe, the winter depression is giving way to a friendly mood, which some say feels somewhat opportunistic.
Next increase coming
The trendsetting Internet stock market rose again on Tuesday afternoon, February 13; this time with €0,03 to €1,50 per kilo. Such price levels have not been on the signs since October. It means that the distance with the German pig price has been stretched to €0,10. This puts all lights on green for the next (hefty) plus in Germany.
Especially because the German slaughterhouses report that there is a considerable shortage of pigs ready for slaughter, while meat prices are mainly moving upwards. The available pig supply in Germany seems to be being pulled from all sides.
