Sokolów Group, the Polish arm of Danish Crown, plans to further strengthen its market position. The company has announced that it will acquire Gzella Meat Group in Poland.
Sokolów director Boguslaw Miszczuk says that the takeover of Gzella Meat will further increase the clout. Gzella Meat Group processes 6.000 tons of meat per month and has approximately 1.000 employees. The turnover of the meat company, which does not slaughter animals itself, is about €134 million per year.
Jais Valeur, CEO at Danish Crown, is pleased with the deal. He expects that the Danish slaughter company will now also be active in northern Poland, where the subsidiary Sokolów was not present until now. The deal still needs to be approved by the Polish Competition Authority.
Consolidation continues
Danish Crown is not the only company in the Polish meat sector on a takeover path. Also the American meat company Smithfield is planning to to grow in Poland. They are about to recruit Pini Polonia.
