Now that the wait-and-see attitude of pig farmers has turned 180 degrees, piglets are rapidly becoming scarcer. It again gives a pendulum to the DCA BestPigletPrice (BPP).
There are simply too few piglets in the Netherlands to meet the demand. Now that German pork farmers are suddenly back on the market, the Dutch supply is quickly drying up. The wait-and-see attitude that German pork farmers showed at the beginning of the year is a thing of the past now that the pig market is mutating hopefully. The German piglet trade is described by the ISN (the German interest group) as particularly smooth.
What also plays a role is that the spreading season for manure in Germany has been open since February. This ensures that the overflowing manure pits can be emptied. Indirectly this frees up space for new additions. The piglet price in Germany (North/West quotation) has increased by €2 in the past week to €42 per piglet. This is €0,50 harder than the trend report initially indicated. An increase of €2 is also expected this week.
Big increase for BPP
The good mood on the piglet market means that the DCA BPP is rising again; this time with €2,50 to €43,50 per piglet. Although such an increase is not a record, it is considered significant.

In recent weeks, the BPP has crept towards the German piglet price.
Regular no sales
In the Netherlands, the market is driven by good domestic demand. Sales to Germany are good, while Spanish demand is described as extremely good. Something that already longer plays. A few traders report that there are now regular no-sales for customers outside their regular customer base. Something that is typical of the situation.
It is therefore not surprising that the Spanish piglet price rose by €3 to €44,50 in the past week. In Denmark, the piglet price has now risen to €51,10 (+€1,70) per 30-kilo piglet. In absolute terms, the piglet supply in Denmark is much more spacious than 1 year earlier.
| DCA BestPigletPrice (week 8) | Price range statements | Number of problems | Average of the problems |
| €43,50 (+2,50) | € 42,00 - € 44,00 | 19 | €42,95 |
| Explanation of the listing: This week, DCA-Noteringen has also opted for an upward rounding of the averaging. The demand for piglets remains high both domestically and on the export market, where Spain is leading the charge. As a result, the chance of an increase in allowances increases. This means that the basic price is too low, leaving room for a further increase than the average. | |||
