The mood on the German pig market is still very good. The pig price (the VEZG quotation) is increasing again.
Tight supply has been the driving force behind this leading quotation for weeks, which has led to other European pig prices.
Internet fair is leading the way
After the Internet Exchange rose by €20 to €0,03 per kilo on Tuesday, February 1,55, nothing stood in the way of another increase in the German pig price. However, the statements behind the German pork price, which range from €1,46 to €1,51, are somewhat cautious.
Nevertheless, the North/West committee has decided to change to €1,50. In the meantime, there are rumors that the slaughterhouses have had enough of the significant increases, although Tönnies' pork price also increased by €0,04.
Small chance of further increases?
The pace (+€0,20 in 4 weeks) would be impossible to keep up with on the meat market. This is also the sound that Vion makes. This therefore reduces the chance of further increases in Germany, although similar sounds were also heard 2 weeks ago. In the Netherlands, Compaxo gains somewhat more moderately, at €0,03 to €1,30 per kilo. On the other hand, Van Rooi Meat's quotation shows a plus of €0,06 to €1,39 per kilo.

The German pork price is almost back to 2017 levels.
European pig prices on the rise
Pig prices are rising across Europe; ranging from €0,04 in Denmark to €0,06 in the Netherlands. The French and Spanish pork prices are exactly in between. Moreover, the tight supply in Germany is not equally noticeable in other European countries.
In Spain, sausage maker El Pozo is under fire for violating animal welfare. This company supplies meat products throughout Europe. In Belgium, 2 supermarkets have decided to remove this supplier's products from their shelves. It is not yet clear whether this will unbalance the Spanish pig market.
