Due to the falling pig price, fattening pig farmers are coming up with a lot of supply. This is reflected in the slaughter figures, which are high. The weights do, however, take a clear step back.
In the week when the mood in the pig market clearly handled, 320.000 pigs were slaughtered in the Netherlands. This puts the slaughter figure of week 10 in joint second place with week 8 and week 3. Only in week 5 (322.000 slaughters) was the supply even larger. Compared to last year's figure, the difference is becoming wider (+13,4%).
What is striking is that the weights clearly take a step down. The average weight drops by 30 grams to 97,8 kilograms. This is the lightest level so far this year. It indicates that there are pigs to be brought forward, which corresponds to the picture that traders paint. In the previous 4 weeks, the average slaughter weight increased or remained at least stable.
Germany and France
In Germany, 976.984 pigs were hooked last week, which corresponds to the long-term average (-0,74%). It is the highest number in 5 weeks, which also means that the German supply is increasing. The average weight in Germany (98,05 kilos) remains fairly constant.
The French slaughterhouses slaughter fairly constant numbers from week to week. In the past week, 376.938 pigs were hanging on the hooks, which is well (+4%) above the long-term average.
