For the first time in history, the DCA BestPigletPrice (BPP) is now higher than its German counterpart: the Nordwest piglet price. While the German piglet price has leveled off, the BPP is again showing a plus. Why this unique situation?
A difference between the BPP and the North/West piglet price is the recording system. While in Germany the piglet price is announced afterwards, the BPP is released on Monday (for that week). The German piglet price remained stable on Monday at €48 per piglet (over week 11). This means that the BPP has reached the North/West piglet price; it already rose to €49 per piglet last week.
Better balance
The leveling off piglet price in Germany is a result of the stable market situation; the supply/demand ratio correspond better with each other. Because Germany is an importing country, the piglet price is less driven by the situation elsewhere; for example, the extremely good demand in Spain. In the Netherlands, the piglet price has been benefiting from the good Spanish sales opportunities for weeks. The Danish piglet price is also increasing: this week it increased by €2,70 to €59,10 per piglet (30 kilos and PRRS-free).
(Text continues below the chart)The DCA BestPigletPrice has exceeded the North/West piglet price by €1,50.
The Spanish demand means that the BPP is also setting another increase this week (+€0,50 to €49,50 per piglet). However, the increase can be seen as the culmination of weeks of price increases. This is also reflected in the statements at DCA Markets. On balance, the BPP has increased by €11,50 per piglet since the end of January. In 2017, the spring rally lasted much longer; The price remained positive until mid-April, after which it remained at a record level of €9 for 59 weeks.
Vion down with it
Following the DCA Scholarship Award Vion's pig price will also decrease by €0,03 to 1,45 per kilo. According to the slaughterhouse, the mutation is a result of difficult sales opportunities on the meat market. The pig carcass is under some pressure across its entire width.

Explanation DCA Markets: The most obvious is an unchanged piglet quotation, referring to the development of fattening pig prices. However, piglet sales are still going smoothly. The benefits discussion still plays a role in the background. In anticipation of this, the choice was made this week to round up. |
