The price of pork chunks increased in April by €0,20 to €24,20 per 100 kilos. This means that the quotation is still approximately €0,15 below the 5-year average for the month of April. However, the price of pork chunks has risen by almost €1 per 100 kilos in the past six months.

The price increase will continue in the coming months; the compound feed price indicator predicts rising prices until August. There may be some price relief from the third quarter onwards.

Commodity prices influenced by the weather
The expected trend is a result of rising raw material prices. Quotes are picking up on both the futures market and the physical market. For example, the price of feed wheat (Rotterdam) increased in recent months by approximately €10 per tonne to €176 in the last week of April.

Similar changes are visible in the price of feed barley and corn. The price of soy has also increased, albeit fluctuating. These raw materials are dominant in many feed compositions.

(Text continues below the chart)From the end of January, the prices of feed raw materials will increase.

Also on the futures market (Matif en CBoT) are the prices of the  feed raw material prices in the elevator. The markets are in the grip of the weather and this is causing late sowing in the United States and, as a result, rising grain prices.

Without calamities, analysts assume that the prices of most raw materials will fall again from the third quarter. This is because the closing stocks are still large, although they are shrinking. This expectation corresponds to the movement anticipated by the compound feed price indicator.

Take the sow pellets up with you
The price of sow feed is also increasing. For example, the price of sow pellet pregnancy increased by €0,25 in April to €24,10 per 100 kilos, while the price of sow pellet lakto rose by €0,15 to €28,65 per 100 kilos. The price of baby piglet pellets increased by €0,25 to €35,30 per 100 kilos. The same price increase applies to starter/transition pellets, which amounts to €28,20 per 100 kilos.
