Piglet sales are going a lot easier than in recent weeks. As a result, the DCA BestPigletPrice (BPP) hits a bottom after a few tumultuous weeks. Is this a definitive bottom?
In the Netherlands, traders notice an improvement in demand. The rising pig price, in combination with the falling piglet price, has ensured that fattening pig farmers express less resistance. In principle, traders have sales for all flocks, which is helped by demand from the (distant) export destination (such as Spain).
This is also reflected in the Spanish piglet price; this fell last week, but the reductions of a few euros per piglet are a thing of the past. According to exporters, foreign countries are no longer bidding back Dutch piglets. This has been the case in recent weeks, resulting in falling piglet prices.
Stability on the way
Although the supply of piglets in Germany increases (seasonally), there is also a balance there. Piglet sales continue and the less common free flocks also find a destination quite easily. The result of this is that there is no movement in the North/West piglet price; this has remained at €45 per piglet. The market is expected to remain stable in the coming week or weeks. The piglet price in Denmark is also not dropping any further; converted into euros, this now amounts to €53,70 per piglet.
Due to the stable market situation, the DCA BestPigletPrice (BPP) can maintain itself at €40 per piglet. However, it is true that a possible mutation will be downward rather than upward. However, the stabilizing BPP can be seen as a signal that a wait-and-see attitude will not necessarily lead to a lower quotation.
Vion's pig price continues to rise
Vion's pork price rose for the second week in a row; this time with €0,02 to €1,47 per kilo. The slaughterhouse says that the negative mood in the ham sales has now been rotated 180 degrees. Vion does emphasize that the sales of by-products, especially to Hong Kong, is under pressure.
| DCA BestPigletPrice (week 22) | Price range | Number of problems | Average |

| Explanation DCA Markets: The piglet price seems to stabilize more easily than last week. The will to record unchanged did not prevail over the assignments. There are some flocks left and right, but they are all eventually placed (not least by increasing the slaughter rate of the pigs). On balance, the piglet market is less tense than last week. The demand for piglets from Spain also helps, where business is being done at comparable price levels compared to last week. | |||
